Don’t forget to calibrate!

Every landscaper, whether you’re doing it yourself or operating a landscape business, needs to understand the importance of calibrating sprayers. Improperly calibrated sprayers could result in dead plants, upset customers and much more.

Regardless of the type of sprayer or how you calibrate, the key is to make sure you are getting the correct output rate for the product being applied.

For example, I recently calibrated my backpack sprayer. The product I plan to apply calls for 1.7 oz per 1000 sq ft. I measured out 1000 sq ft and test sprayed the area with water. I used 2 gallons. Thus, at that walking speed and nozzle setting, I need to add 1.7 oz of product for every 2 gallons of water.
